Arrival and first day…
On our last leg of our 2025 summer vaccation, we went to South Korea.
First we flew from KL to Busan going via Hanoi with Vietnam Airlines on two relatively short flights.

We arrived in Busan early in the morning. To get from the airport to our hotel at Haeundae beach we had an airport transfer arranged through KLook.

There was a signboard with my name after the luggage claim. We had enough time to get local SIM cards before heading to the city.
The car we hired was large, unlike the bad experience we had in KL where either all our luggage or all of us would fit into the car.

We arrived at the hotel around 9am, but we knew already that we would not be able to check in before 3pm. We stored our luggage in lockers provided free of charge by the hotel (Toyoko Inn Busan). Theb we went for a good breakfast,

before taking subway and busses to the first sight seeing spot, Gamcheon Cultural Village.

From Haeundae beach to Gamcheon is quite a trip. It takes approx 1,5 hours by subway and bus to get there. But using the public transport in Busan is very easy. First one need to have a T-mobey card. Those are available at every CU convenience store. They can be easily recharged with balance for your rides at the place you buy it, or at any subway station. Most of the CU stores or recharge machine only take cash, some also accept credit cards.

Trips usually cost a few hundred Won to 1,5 or 2 thousand.
Using the subway you have to scan your card on entry and when you leave. The same goes to the bus. You always scan your card when you get onto the bus and when you leave it again. In Busan we were told that children don’t need to pay for bus rides. In Seoul we saw people scanning cards for their kids aswell.
Since Google Maps is not working for navigation in South Korea, it is recommended to download an app called Naver to use for that purpose. The app works with English aswell, but for some local names/places you better find a translation or copy and paste the names from a webpage to find the correct location to go to.
To be continued…
